The Council of Nicea gave the church her most foundational confession of faith that has shaped centuries of Christian understanding: the Nicene Creed. The early church fathers from around the known world gathered in a united voice in the fourth century to proclaim that Jesus Christ is indeed of the same being with the Father and of the same being with us who are human.
The Creed provides us a simple but profound clarity - a rich articulation of the Gospel reality. The unity of the Nicene faith binds the universal church together, even as we anticipate the Spirit's work in drawing us toward an outward unity amidst all our unfortunate fragmentation.
Over the course of two live video lectures filmed over Holy Week 2025 (on the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Council) John Crowder explores the unity of the faith once handed down to us, and the corrective that Nicea provides to the modern church.
