Three-Part Video Course
A Companion Series to our Longer E-Course
There is a war for our attention amidst the chaos of constant media stimulation, news, monetized outrage, politics and religious opinion. Not only has society forgotten the vital need for silence, but the modern church has also become untethered from her rich history of ancient contemplative practice. We don't even know how to be silent anymore. "Silence is God's first language," said St. John of the Cross. In fact, we seem to prefer the barrage of outer stimulation, because it distracts us from the inner noise of our own tumultuous thoughts, anxieties, fears and insecurities. The result is a confused plummet into madness. But contemplation is transformative and necessary to be truly human. It is also critical to theology, as we exchange our "conceptual" ideas about God for God Himself in intimacy.
This is a shorter, three-part standalone addendum to our longer full-length E-Course on Contemplation (the extended 12-part course can be found here). It can be watched alone, or in tandem with the much longer series. Gain some practical tools for spiritual development ... to re-learn rest: the effortless practice of the presence of God. Contemplation is not about "getting closer" to the God to whom you are already united in Christ. Contemplation is wordless prayer. It is a mode of engaging our ever present union with God. It is pausing to take the daily time to experience this union in a way that transcends words, thought, worship song lyrics and religious concepts. As we pull aside to acclimate ourselves the Triune God in silence, we become centered and begin to see Him everywhere in the world around us.
